Good for the environment

As the saying goes, "food, clothing and shelter" (shoulder clothing and shelter), clothing is a very important element in life. Yesterday's blog post on "going plastic-free" gave me a lot of new insights! So, today I'd like to talk about fashion technology.

Whether it be food, clothing or shelter, technology is evolving every day and new things are emerging.

Especially in recent years, when I think about something as simple as a smartphone, I realize how much technology has changed and developed compared to the past. I'm not particularly good at IT , so I sometimes think that in another 30 years, I'll be able to understand how my grandparents feel today.

Silk is a natural fiber that has been around for thousands of years, so I think that's what makes it so great, but even in fashion, recent technology is amazing.

A long time ago, people used animal fur to keep out the cold and enjoyed fashion only using natural fibers like cotton and silk , but technology in fashion has been advancing rapidly.

What I find particularly striking is the so-called vegan leather, which is leather but not made from animal products.

I am not vegan at all, but when I heard about this new vegan leather, I thought, "This is new and it might be nice," but at the same time, I felt like "Maybe we're doing something good."

Leather is something we get from animals, but vegan leather is made from mushrooms, pineapples, apples that would have been thrown away, etc. We eat salmon flesh, but there are also fish leathers made from fish skin, etc.
I'm sure there are many other things that are still being researched, but they're all very interesting.

Am I the only one who gets excited about turning things I throw away into new things? Lol

Although it was an unfamiliar word a few years ago, the words "sustainable" and "SDGs " are now used more widely. The world is rapidly changing through innovation, such as reusing things or creating new things from things that would have been thrown away, and I realized that when people are conscious of this, so many interesting new things can come out.

This time, we are looking at the polar opposites of silk, which has remained unchanged for thousands of years, and materials that change with innovation, but perhaps our concern for the environment is the same.

Ever since it became clear that synthetic fibers , such as plastics made artificially from petroleum, are bad for the environment, innovation has also been moving in a more environmentally friendly direction.

Silk is also a material that can be decomposed 100% by the soil. I think that things that have been considered good since ancient times will continue to be good even without major innovation.
