Maybe because I've been working in the film industry recently, I've been spending a lot of time surfing the internet looking at old movies! And I came across a movie called "Silk" (based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Alessandro Baricco, who is known for "The Legend of 1900" ) that was released in 2007.

This film is a joint production between Canada, France, Italy, the UK and Japan, and features music by Ryuichi Sakamoto! The cast also includes a star-studded cast including Michael Pitt, Keira Knightley, Koji Yakusho and Miki Nakatani!
The story is set in 19th century France. A young soldier named Hervé, happily married to his beautiful wife Helene, sets off to a faraway foreign land, Japan, to procure silkworms. After completing his life-threatening journey, he arrives at a small village where he finds himself drawn to a mysterious girl who is the wife of one of his business partners .
Anyway, the story of "traveling to a faraway foreign land, Japan, to procure silkworms" is WOW! Writing a novel about silkworms is such a great idea!
Yes, during this time, high-quality Japanese raw silk was a target of trade for foreign merchants. As I wrote in my previous blog, Eiichi Shibusawa was also deeply involved in the development of the raw silk industry!
