I realize more and more that my skin is important.
I really felt that I shouldn't underestimate skin.
This is a story that Professor Nakatani of Keio University said on a recent TV program.
In fact, dry skin can have a negative effect on your mind!
Oh noooooo!
And that bad feeling reaches the heart...
I think depression is often mentioned as a mental illness.
One of the causes of depression is the stress hormone called cortisol.
Apparently, cortisol is released in response to any kind of stimulus...
Research has shown that when skin becomes dry, skin cells secrete cortisol.
I had always thought that hormones came from the internal organs, but it turns out that this isn't actually the case.
In an actual experiment, when comparing dry cultured skin with skin in a high humidity state (so-called moisturized cultured skin), the results showed that the amount of cortisol, a stress hormone, was higher in the former, dry cultured skin (enough so that it could be statistically determined which was better).
However, it seems that cortisol can be secreted by pretty much anything, and we just don't know about it.
For example, it is secreted during muscle training.
So, if it is secreted when stimulated, then of course it will be released when stimulated because the skin is exposed to the elements! However, according to the professor, the important thing to note is that the skin itself secretes cortisol before we feel stress.
Traditionally, it was thought that stress is felt in the brain, causing the adrenal glands to secrete cortisol, which then leads to depression. However, it has been discovered that when the skin becomes dry or damaged, the keratinocytes in the epidermis synthesize and release cortisol, which is thought to cause depression.
That's because levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, are high enough that they can lead to depression.
The speaker asked, "If we had concluded that the reason why depression is more prevalent in winter is because external factors such as the weather (snow, low temperatures) affect the mind... does that mean that people become depressed in winter because their skin becomes extremely dry in winter?"
The teacher replied, "Yes, that's possible."
Performer: "So if I moisturize my skin... will it feel better?"
Teacher: Yes, that's possible.
One scenario that has emerged is that moisturizing the skin could help treat depression.
Even if you don't get depressed, if you're feeling down, try moisturizing!
To do this, say goodbye to synthetic fibers, apply moisturizing cream and wear your favorite innerwear made from natural materials!
This might make you feel a little better!
If you like, in that case, I recommend ar*'s silk innerwear.
The recently released ar* Silk Skin Veil
