Silk Anniversary

My cute little sister runs a wedding planning company in Kamakura.

When I was working for a company that allowed side jobs, I helped out my sister's company for a while, so I have some knowledge about weddings and the like.

I learned about "silk weddings" at that time, and that's what I chose as my theme for today.

It is pronounced "kinukonshiki".

The 12th wedding anniversary is called the "silk wedding anniversary".

It is not well known, and it is not a well-established event, so I think many couples overlook this silk wedding ceremony.

Instead, I suspect that many couples celebrate their 10th anniversary.

A long time ago, a jewelry store started an event to celebrate the 10th wedding anniversary.

They called it "Sweet 10" and successfully branded it.

"Let's celebrate this milestone 10th anniversary of your marriage and give your wife a diamond as a token of our appreciation."

It was customary for a husband to gift his wife a suitable diamond piece of jewelry on the 10th anniversary.

This was called the Sweet Ten Diamonds.

I wonder if it's still there???

A silk wedding anniversary is a special day that comes when the bond between a husband and wife has deepened.

(It's been 12 years, longer than Sweet Ten.)

First of all, why is it called a "silk wedding"?

Like silk, which is fine-grained and soft yet strong, the love between two people is also likened to silk, and this anniversary is filled with the feelings and meaning of their wish to continue to be soft (gentle) and strong (thank you, I look forward to seeing you).

Unlike the "Sweet 10", this silk wedding anniversary should be celebrated by a wife giving a gift to her husband, or
