Silk protein?

A pop-up store is now open at Yokohama Takashimaya!
Another pop-up in Yokohama.

We look forward to seeing you!

This is a bit off topic from pop-up stores, but when you see something in your daily life,

"Contains silk protein"

It said this (which makes me feel uneasy because I can't even remember what it was), so I wondered what it was and looked it up.

I think it was cosmetics...maybe shampoo. I think I saw it at a drugstore (maybe detergent...).
Silk is a protein, as explained by the salesperson, and it is true, but when I heard it called "silk protein," I wondered if there was something else in it.

Silk protein is a protein contained in silk, and fabrics that take advantage of the properties of silk are called "silk protein processed."

Silk protein itself is a substance that contains a lot of sericin. Indeed, it may be that the term "silk protein" is more directly related to the image of silk than "sericin"!

The efficacy of this product was listed as including a skin-beautifying effect, and because it is made of the same protein as the main component of skin, it is gentle on the skin and has a high moisturizing effect.
I was relieved to see that it was the same as the detailed explanation about silk.

Silk protein is also being added to food, and research and new efforts are being made to use it as a way to ingest protein.
I have never tried it...

If you're shopping in town and see phrases like "contains silk protein" on a product's packaging, I hope you'll remember this article.
